Lea Salonga interested to sing RP National Anthem in the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight in Las Vegas. World-renowned artist Lea Salonga has expressed desire to render the country’s national anthem in the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight in Las Vegas.

In a TV interview, the Tony Award-winning actress and former “Miss Saigon” star bared she is just waiting for the announcement that she has been selected to sing the Lupang Hinirang.

“I’m just waiting for the go signal. I have friends who will help me keep in touch with the Pacquiao camp,” Salonga said.

She added that she also has a concert in Las Vegas on May 1, making the timing perfect. The Pacquiao-Hatton tussle, dubbed “The Battle of East and West,” will be on May 2 (May 3 in Manila).

Earlier reports said that “Concert King” Martin Nievera is also being considered for the job.

The choice of who will sing the Anthem in Pacquiao’s fights has been a popular topic among the boxer’s fans. Among the artists who performed in Pacquiao’s previous fights are Karylle (against Oscar de La Hoya), Ciara Sotto (versus Juan Manuel Marquez), Nicole Angela Judalena (against David Diaz), Kyla (versus Marco Antonio Barrera) and Geneva Cruz (against Jorge Solis). - By Dino Maragay (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)
